The pattern -(으)세요 is used to give polite commands, requests, and instructions. It is the most common way to tell someone to do something respectfully.

Honorific Verbs with -(으)세요

Some verbs have special honorific forms that are preferred when speaking to elders:

The V-아/어 주세요 Pattern (Please Do for Me)

A very common polite request pattern combines the helping verb 주다 (to give) with -(으)세요:

V-아/어 주세요 = "Please do V (for me)"

천천히 말해 주세요. Please speak slowly (for me).
다시 한번 말해 주세요. Please say it once more.
문을 열어 주세요. Please open the door.
사진 좀 찍어 주세요. Please take a photo (for me).

This is softer and more natural than just -(으)세요 alone for making requests.

Negative Commands: V-지 마세요 (Please Don't)

To tell someone not to do something politely:

V-지 마세요 = "Please don't V"

The pattern -(으)ㅂ시다 is the formal way to suggest doing something together: "Let's..."
